Bio

The intention of my art is to help others feel recognized, cared for, and loved. Through the process of rendering functional pottery, I think of the touch, the emotion, and the connection others will feel with my creations. When carving, smoothing, and tending to the needs of my clay, the amount of time spent creating it is of no consequence.

As I envision a piece in my mind I understand how it should look and feel both emotionally and physically when completed. During the process of working, the material invites new ideas and techniques that elevate the piece beyond my original vision. The push and pull between the material and my imagination is an exciting relationship that holds my attention and asks me to grow. Though growth can be frightening and the fear of failing looms over me, the prospect of making something that surpasses my own vision is an opportunity I rarely turn down.

I work to form connections with my art through my materials, the self, and the community around me. The joy I feel when sharing with others is immense, it fuels, fulfills, and encourages me to continue expanding my practice as an artist. By showcasing generosity, intimacy, and kinship in my art practice I hope to inspire more of these qualities in the world.
